He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Mary Torres, his beloved son
Michael Torres, beloved Grandsons Joshua Mumford, Jacob Mumford, Eric Maria, and Great-Granddaughter Isabel Mumford. His parents, Rafaela Avila Torres and Juan Torres, arrived in Oxnard, in the early 1900s.
Benny was born off Garfield Street Oxnard, CA, March 21,1929, and had eight siblings. At a young age he became a hard worker and enlisted into the Army.
Benny was a war veteran, who served in the Korean War, from 1945-1952. After his time of service he became a member of the Local Laborers Union 585, and he would tell us of the many stories of the roads and freeways that he helped build the foundation for in Ventura County and Los Angeles County. He married Mary, once he returned, at the old Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in 1955.
In his early life, he would be with his friends playing poker and pool in the local bars, and with time became a man humbly dedicated to his faith. He led his family in being a spiritual leader and spreading the word of God. He finally retired April 1, 1981, and enjoyed the rest of his life with his wife and family.
He is survived by his children Benito Jr., (Vicky), Kathy (Manuel), Luis (Sheri), Michele-Mitzie (Alberto), Veronica, Mark, Sandra (Roger), 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
His legacy will live on with all his children and grandchildren to come after in the stories we'll all share with the cities he built, the kindness he gave, and the strength and sacrifice he taught us how to have a family.
