

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mr. Childers was born February 28, 1943 in Fillmore, Kentucky, son of the late Doris Clayton and Pina Mae King Childers. He attended Asbury United Methodist Church. Mr. Childers served 20 years in the U.S. Army and 22 years as a security guard with Farley Nuclear Plant. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed watching NASCAR. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Eliza Jane King and Daisy Golden Childers.
Survivors include his wife of almost 48 years, Margaret Childers, of Skipperville, AL; daughters: Sheila Lomaneck and husband, Jackie Dewayne Lomaneck, and Charlotte Childers Wenk and husband, Charles Ewell Wenk, all of Ozark, AL; sons: Douglas McArthur Childers, Jr. and wife, Laura Childers, and James Scott Childers and wife, Rhonda Staples Childers, all of Skipperville, AL; sister, Wanda Gross, of Jackson, KY; brothers: Raymond Childers and wife, Lily Childers, of Lily, KY, and Ronnie Childers, of Enterprise, AL; grandchildren: Sabrina Lee and Justin English, Blakely Ryan Childers, Jessica Lynn Childers, Shannon Marie Wenk, Alexander Scott Childers, Clinton Spencer Childers, Christopher Lee Childers, and Corey Allen Lomaneck; great-grandchildren: Layla Lee English and Betty Lee English; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law that he loved as his own siblings.
Serving as pallbearers will be Blakely Childers, Alex Childers, Spencer Childers, Corey Lomaneck, Justin English, and Jason Childers. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Rhodes and Steven Pitts.
