A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011, from Clopton United Methodist Church. The family received friends an hour prior to service time. Interment followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark.
Mr. Schmidt was born May 3, 1940 in Elgin, Illinois, son of the late Herman and Lois Williams Schmidt.
After forty years of employment in the aerospace industry in southern California, Jeff retired to Alabama three years ago. Though proud of many accomplishments including published papers and presentations, he felt his years in Alabama were the happiest. He enjoyed working to improve his recently built home, any project in which he drove his tractor, and visits to John Deere dealerships. Sharing the beauty of southern Alabama and the warmth of people here during visits from children and grandchildren was a special pleasure. Mr. Schmidt was a member of Clopton United Methodist Church. His special presence is greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of five years, Elizabeth Trawick Schmidt, of Skipperville; one daughter, Tonya Marie Robbins (Justin), of Simi Valley, CA; three sons: Troy Jeffrey Schmidt (Allison) of La Cresenta, CA, Trevor Andreas Schmidt (Coryn) of Las Vegas, NV, and Devan Trawick Peebles of El Segundo, CA; one brother, Brad Schmidt, of Dundee, IL; and six grandsons.
