Arleen M. Childers (Hokansson), born May 23, 1924, died peacefully in her own bed on August 25, 2025, at 12:05 p.m. The legacy she leaves behind can be found in the hearts and minds of all who were privileged to know her. Arleen outlived all of her relatives and friends who were the same age, and inspired their children with daily emails written to them every night until weeks before she died. Arleen also checked in with friends and family on Facebook until she just couldn't anymore.
Mom is survived by her children Richard L. Childers (Jane), Diane L. Hurley (Jack), and Mick/George, her grand children Garrett Childers and Michaela Bublitz (Eric), and her great grandchildren, Macy and Harper Bublitz, and George and Edie Childers. Arleen was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Winifred (Hall) Hokansson, husband George C. Childers, and a daughter Georgia May Childers, and her two younger sisters, Marjorie Hettick (Melvin) and Sally Burritt (Robert).
Arleen was a very curious person and found interest in many areas. The last time she was in the hospital and rehab, mom had anyone who came into her room sign a piece of paper and promised them she would pray for them every day. The pretty little box with hundreds of names was next to her chair, and mom made good on her promise every day. Arleen was a very special human being and you felt it when you were in her presence. Our world is a very different place without her.
A service will be held at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Melbourne, 2010 South Babcock Street, Melbourne, FL 32901, at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 5, 2025. The service will be live streamed on the church's Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, all donations will be given to the church's Shephard's Fund that provides monetary help and hope to people in need.
Another memorial service will be held on a later date at the First United Methodist Church in West Allis, Wisconsin with her burial following the service.
Our family want to thank all the people at Hospice of Health First for everything they did to help with mom's last days, especially her nurse Tania and her bath lady, Gerline, who mom said made her feel like a woman again.
May God bless you momma...
