Edry Gloria Joseph

Edry Gloria Joseph, age 85, of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Born to Dolores and Clement Joseph on July 31, 1939, she grew up in Willikies, Antigua, before immigrating to London, England, in the early 1950s. In the UK, she trained to become a nurse at Saint Ann’s General Hospital and began practicing. She met her first husband, Lloyd Western Clarke, who would go on to become the father of her three children: Everton, Yvonne, and Patricia. Edry would later marry twice more.

To create a better life for her family, she made the decision to move to America. Her mom, Dolores, and her brother, Wallace, served as sponsors for her immigration to the United States in November 1976. She worked at Dewitt Nursing Home in Manhattan.

Later in life, Edry moved to central Florida and continued her work in nursing at both Carnegie Gardens Nursing Center and Avante at Melbourne. She was pillar in her community and was adored by many, many coworkers both due to her incredibly strong work ethic and her warm presence.

Faith played a central role in Edry’s life. She loved virtually tuning into services held at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in New Jersey.

She loved listening to reggae and calypso music on the radio, having a laugh, cooking, and watching her favorite TV shows and movies. She would bring a bit of her Caribbean heritage—which she was very proud of—wherever she went. Even in her older years, Edry would play the piano and perform at recitals, returning to a pastime from her youth.

Edry had a heart of gold—caring for others was at the center of everything she did, in the workplace, in her personal life with loved ones, and even with strangers. Her family and friends will miss her dearly. She is survived by her siblings Heather Allen, Wallace Joseph, Barrymore Joseph, Eloise Joseph, Louise Joseph, and Christopher “Chrissie” Joseph. She is also survived by her children Everton Clarke, Yvonne Clarke, Patricia Clarke Burnett; her son-in-law Carlos Burnett; and her grandchildren Amanda Clarke, Jane Burnett, and Clark Burnett.She was predeceased by Linroy Joseph.

A visitation for Edry will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
