Tony was born on December 11, 1947, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Rufus and Bessie Rushing. From a young age, he embodied the values of hard work, dedication, and service to others. He proudly served in the United States Naval Air Reserve, where he learned discipline, loyalty, and a strong sense of duty—qualities that would guide him throughout his life.
Tony went on to build a successful career with Michigan Bell and later with BellSouth after relocating to Florida. He earned the respect of his colleagues for his professionalism, work ethic, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him.
In addition to his career, Tony was deeply committed to conservation and wildlife protection. He served as a State Officer for Florida Ducks Unlimited in 2004, an organization he was passionate about for many years. His dedication to Ducks Unlimited earned him numerous honors, including the Emory M. Torrey Volunteer of the Year Award in 2004 and the Distinguished Service Award from Ducks Unlimited in 2003. His work with the organization was a reflection of his love for nature and his desire to give back to the environment he cherished.
Tony’s greatest joy, however, was always his family. He shared 57 loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Jan, who stood by his side as his caretaker during his later years as his health declined due to Alzheimer’s. Jan’s unwavering care and love were a testament to their deep and enduring bond.
An avid outdoorsman, Tony also loved hunting and fishing. He spent countless hours pursuing deer, rabbit, ducks, Canadian geese, and even alligators. His time spent on the water fishing was equally special to him, and many treasured memories were made during these outdoor adventures with family and friends.
Known for his infectious sense of humor, Tony had the ability to make anyone feel at ease. His generous heart, love for life, and commitment to those he cared about left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Tony was predeceased by his parents, Rufus and Bessie Rushing; his brother, Eugene Rushing; and his sister, Carol Tittle. He is survived by his loving wife, Jan; daughters, Tammy Still (Stephen) and Christy Myers (Mark); grandchildren, Karley Myers, Mason Myers, Faith Still, Ian Still, and Gabriel Still; his extended family, including sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
A memorial service will be held at Fountainhead Funeral Home on February 22, 2025 to celebrate Tony’s life and the impact he had on all who knew him.
Please feel free to wear favorite hunting attire or your Ducks Unlimited shirt as that is what Tony would have wanted.
Tony’s spirit will be missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, conservation, and adventure will never be forgotten.
