Joan Elizabeth Chang

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Elizabeth Chang, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Joan passed away on August 22, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she was the daughter of the late Inez Morris and Eric Thomas.

A bright and determined student, Joan graduated early from high school and shortly thereafter married her husband, Gilbert. Together, they raised four children.

She earned a degree in Library Science and enjoyed a long career with Jamaica Library Service and later, Pace University Library, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

Joan was known to have a wonderful sense of humor. Though seemingly reserved and serious, she would often surprise those around her with her quick wit and playful insight—a trait loved by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert; her children, Gilbert Jr, Philip, Sandra and Christopher (and their partners); her younger brother, Owen Thomas; her grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Visitation gathering for Joan will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, Florida, with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm. Family and guests are welcomed to stay for a reception following the service.
