A true Patriot, Larry served 20 years in the United States Naval Submarine Force and retired honorably in 1981. Upon his retirement, he worked in the Defense Industry until 1992 always keeping the Submarine Fleet as his number one priority. Some would say Larry was a true renaissance man, a man that knew everything about everything. But his true calling was as an avid woodworker; he was meticulous in his work. In 1993, Larry and his wife Gail started Woodcrafters Furniture Service in Swansea Massachusetts where they bought, sold and refinished furniture for over 10 years. He was always able to make a derelict piece of furniture look brand new again. When Larry finally hung up his dust mask and wood tools, he and Gail headed south. In his later years, Larry enjoyed collecting firearms and spent many hours at the shooting range. He also loved listening to music and always looked forward to dancing with his wife. One of their fondest memories was the river cruise trip they made to Normandy, France in the Spring of 2017. Even though they had been on several Cruises over the years, this was a trip that Larry and Gail always wanted to take, thankfully, they finally found the time.
Larry will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife of 32 years Gail, his sons Lawrence E Gallagher (Danielle), James Gallagher (Crystal), Patrick Gallagher (Jennifer), Christopher Gallagher (Sarah), his daughter Catherine Loebs (Eric) step-son Anthony Chernasky (Linda), and step-daughter Cynthia Jarvis (Greg), 19 grandchildren; three sisters, Lorraine McGuirl, Mary O'Neil and Colleen Howell. He is preceded by his parents Lawrence E Gallagher, Sr. and Catherine Gallagher.
