

Robert Jesus Garedo, 75, of Palm Bay, Florida was summoned home by the Lord, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Robert ("Bobby") was born on December 5, 1940 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Juan Evangelista Garedo and Clara (Clinton-Garedo) Mabray. He is survived by his devoted wife Cecilia (Villegas) Garedo, 3 Children; Sybil (Robert) Bailey of Providence, RI, Mark Garedo of Honolulu, Hawaii and Leslie (Francisco) Garedo-Mejia of Cranston, RI. Stepfather to Michael Villegas, Leo Villegas and Lori Maciel all of East Providence, RI, 4 Siblings: Claire Montrond of Sunnyvale, CA , Anna Lowman of North Providence, RI, Juan Garedo of Providence, RI and George Garedo of East Providence, RI, in addition to many nephews, nieces and cousins. His grandchildren, Christian Robert, Ebonee, Armani, Onsley, Milan and Tseguhn. Together with Cecilia, Corrine, Sharissa, Shauna, Tori, Sydney, Skylar and 4 great grandchildren. He was affectionately known by all his grandchildren as "Poppi."
Robert was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Juanito A'vant, Barbara Shaw, Dolores Varella, Lola Willis, Juanita Johnson and Pedro Garedo.
Robert graduated from Hope High School then enlisted into the Army obtaining an honorable discharge after serving 3 years. He worked for the East Providence Water Pollution Control Division for 30 years prior to his retirement. He and his wife Cecilia moved to Palm Bay, Florida where they basked in the year round warm climate. He was a proud member of the East Side-Fox Point Reunion Committee and a former member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center.
In addition to his love of sports, he coached and umpired several girls’ softball teams. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his many friends. With his outgoing personality, he was a true friend to many, especially those from the Fox Point and East Side neighborhoods of his youth.
He will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and member of his extended family and to all the lives he touched.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 475 Cranston Street, Providence RI 02907.
