Robert Augustus Strange, 88, of Melbourne died Thursday (7/3) at his home. A native of Washington, Indiana, he came to the Melbourne area 27 years ago from Huber Heights, Ohio. Robert had been a general sales manager for a refrigeration equipment company prior to his retirement. An avid golfer, once he retired and moved to the Melbourne area he worked for many years at the Habitat Golf Course as a starter. He had been a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church here in Melbourne and also was a race car driver. A veteran of WW II, he served in the US Navy and also was a member of the VFW serving both as Post Commander and Regional Commander. He also was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his sons: Michael (wife, Jewel) Flannery of Virginia, Patrick (wife, Kyong) Flannery of Palm Bay, and Robert Anthony (wife, Kelly) of Melbourne; sister: Ginger Boyd of St. Louis; brothers: William of Washington, IN, Larry of SC; grandchildren: Patrick Flannery, Michael P. Strange, Kelly Flannery, Kristina Flannery; great-grandchildren: Patrick P. Flannery, Sarah Flannery, and Angela Hubler.
