February 29, 1920 in Hectors River, Portland, Jamaica WI. She was the eldest of six in her mixed
family including brothers, Everald (Uncle Son-deceased), Keith (deceased), Carlton and sisters
Elaine and Cynthia. Ruby spent her formative years in Portland completing her secondary
education at Tichfield Highschool.
As a young woman, Ruby relocated to Kingston where she began her career in culinary
services as a manager of a local factory cafeteria. Ruby’s tenacious and assertive personality
soon led her to become head chef. In 1948, she met the love of her life Edgar Anderson. Their
courtship lasted for two years and ultimately culminated in marriage on December 27, 1950. At
that time, Ruby lovingly filled the role of step-mother to Yvonne (deceased) before producing
her own offspring, Peaches (deceased), Lenworth (Charlie) And Shirleen (Charm). Ruby was the
definition of a renaissance woman; she was a devoted military wife to Edgar, teacher to her
young children, faithful parishioner at St. George Anglican Church and confidante to many. She
was the cornerstone of her family and at any time her home could be filled with relatives from
near and far.
Ruby’s primary mission in life was to provide a sustainable life for her family. With this
goal in mind, she made the difficult decision to migrate independently to the United States
(New York) in 1966. Upon arrival, she became a caretaker to young children of the Lott family.
Under her insight she was able to move her entire family to the US in the 1970’s. Many of her
finest years were spent in Brooklyn, where she assisted with local churches and helped to rear
her grandchildren. Even without a license, Ruby was able to navigate Brooklyn better than any
MTA employee! Eventually the harsh winters got to Ruby and her beloved Edgar and they were able to
move to Palm Bay, Florida in 2003 with the completion of their dream home. Immediately upon
arrival, Ruby and Edgar became member of Greater Palm Bay Church of God. Ruby remained a
loyal wife to Edgar until his death in 2009 after 59 years of marriage. Over that last twelve years
Ruby continued to pour into various charities, strengthen life-long friendships, and continued
practicing her faith. Ruby faithfully kept her promise to celebrate her 100th birthday, and
was surrounded by family and friends as she was honored by the City of Palm
Bay on 2/29/2020.
Ruby lived a fulfilled life and went to join her Lord on March 12, 2020. She is survived by
her children Lenworth Anderson and Shirleen Bell, their spouses Mignonette and Warren,
siblings Carlton, Elaine, and Cynthia, grandchildren Kenyatta, Michele, Lachonne, Valeen,
Patrine, Hakeem, Brandy, Camille, Essene, Everol, Francine, and Nicole, host of great
grandchildren, sister in Law Bernice, nieces, nephews, family, loved ones, church family, and
friends.
