Shirley M. Johns, 77 of Sebastian, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012. She was born September 29, 1934 in Shady Springs, West Virginia to Taylor and Ethel Meador. She grew up in Berkley, West Virginia and graduated from Concord University in Athens, Georgia. Shirley worked 37 years as a High School teacher. She enjoyed doing charity and volunteer work for the VFW, National Children's Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Sebastian River Medical Center. Shirley worked as the supervisor of elections in Indian River and was a member of the Sebastian Ladies Auxiliary, Post 10210.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Shawn (Karen) Basore of Boca Raton, sisters, Helen Civffreda of Lake Frederick, VA, Juanita Sletterink of Beckley, VA and two grandchildren, Shane and Cole. She was preceded in death by a brother Gene Meador and sisters, Geneva Coffey and Joyce Shewsberry.
