On January 14, 1961, she united in holy matrimony with the LOVE of her life, James Benjamin Culver, Sr. Their blessed union spanned 48 years and was enriched by the birth of their four sons: James “Jimmy” Benjamin Culver, Jr., Larry Donell Culver, Lanell Culver, and Steven Rene Culver. As the matriarch of a household blessed with four sons, Mamie led her family with strength, grace, and unwavering love.
Mamie lived a life firmly rooted in faith, service, and devotion to family. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a proud grandmother.
Mamie and James were steadfast supporters of their children and grandchildren’s sporting activities. Whether it was basketball, football, baseball, or track, they were faithfully present – cheering enthusiastically from the stands or (on occasion) running along the sidelines – offering constant love, encouragement, and heartfelt pride!
Mamie accepted Christ at an early age and her faith remained the foundation of her life. She was a dedicated member of First Community Church, in Sun Village, California where she devotedly served as President of the Deaconess Board and as a member of the church choir. She found great joy in praising God through song and worship.
Professionally, Mamie worked in the nursing field for many years. Her compassionate spirit, diligence, and commitment to caring for others left a lasting impact on the many lives she touched.
Mamie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Benjamin Culver Sr., their son Lanell Culver, her parents Philmore and Martha Ann Henderson, and a host of cherished family members and friends.
We take comfort in the promise of God’s Word that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). While we mourn her earthly absence, we rejoice in knowing that our mother rests in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones, and surrounded by God’s everlasting light.
