She is survived by her husband, her three children, her eight grandchildren, and her large extended family.
Cindy was born Cynthia Dee Edwards on August 5, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to GlenDoris “Gigi” and Warren “Ed” Edwards. She met her future husband, Roy, in Nairobi, Kenya while serving as a short-term missionary.
She and Roy were married on July 17, 1976 and would go on to live, travel, and serve all over the globe. A cheerful, compassionate, caring friend with a radiant smile, an infectious laugh, and a servant spirit, Cindy was loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
Cindy’s greatest desire was to share her faith. Always quick to acknowledge and tell of the good things God had done for her, she wanted nothing more than for everyone to know and love Jesus as she did. Her authentic faith, grounded in Biblical truth and practical reality, enabled her to live without pretense in genuine joy of the Lord. A little woman with a big heart, she encouraged many others on their journey to faith. Much of her life’s story is captured in her book, “Why Pisek?”, which tells how God led Cindy and Roy to live and serve in the Czech Republic.
Cindy relied daily on God’s Word, the indwelling Holy Spirit, and prayer for guidance throughout a rich and varied career. She served as a missionary intern in Kenya, a trauma center nurse in Illinois, a faculty wife at Union College in New York, an administrative assistant for Chuck Colson at Prison Fellowship Ministries in Virginia, an ESL teacher, a foreign service wife in South Africa and England, a training specialist in Washington, DC, and a TEFL-certified missionary English teacher in the Czech Republic. Cindy found that in every move “the boundary lines had fallen for her in pleasant places” (Psalm 16:6) as she focused less on the sights she saw and the duties she performed and more on the people she met and the friendships she made.
She loved reading biographies of the Christians who went before her “because God writes the best stories.” Hosting English “high teas” for family and friends was a favorite activity, as was going for long countryside and forest walks with her husband.
Most of all, Cindy was a Proverbs 31 wife, a wonderful mother to her children, and a devoted, caring “Grandmom” to her grandchildren for whom she loved organizing active “Grandy Camps,” attending their plays, cheering at their soccer and ice hockey games, and teaching them to bake and sew.
Uncomfortable with praise, Cindy believed God should get the glory. She recognized God’s hand in shaping the course of her life and was able to “give thanks in all circumstances.” Steadfast in her faith, she faced her cancer diagnosis with courage and peace, knowing that she was in God’s good hands no matter the outcome. She knew that, through faith in Christ, the best is yet to come because death is only a door to eventual resurrection and eternal life in perfect fellowship with Jesus.
A memorial service will be held at New Story Church in Phoenixville, PA at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Cindy’s favorite charities: Compassion International.
