We were so sorry to hear about Joe’s passing. Please accept our deepest condolences.  Meghan and our daughter, Carolyn were in grade school together at MDP. Joe always had a smile on his face.  We met so many wonderful parents like Joe and Karen during those days. Joe was gone too soon. God bless.

My condolescenes to the Boland family did to Joe's sudden loss.
Joe & I met at SJU, CL - 72,
and shared many Accounting classes during our 4 yrs.
We  enjoyed some great professors while there, but Ed Sutula(RIP) made a lastly impression on both of us going fwd.
Joe & I played intramural sports & our basketball battles were epic.
We played on separate teams, his the "No Names",  & mine the "The Magic Alley Trash band"! A classic rivalry of the Good (Joe) vs the Bad guys. Our teams always played 4 the title, and the No Names always won.(Gods choice)
We went our separate ways into public accounting & had no contact for all those yrs.
I eventually became a Ref, & U guessed it, VB washy favorite even though I never played organized.  Not sure about Joe.
I heard of his coaching appt at Villa, and soon found myself reffing a Jv/Varsity match vs MSJ, I believe, and we talked of old times. He actually became a Supv in the PIAA 4 VB, as he's well liked and respected. We met several times after, recently at a PIAA Rules Interpreations meeting , which is a mandatory annual meeting for all coaches & registered PIAA refs & Admin's.
Amazingly, he never showed any signs of aging from our 1st mtg in 68. He was very personable & had a keen mind for knowledge of the game.
I was saddened to hear of his loss and will miss him.

I miss Joe.  I had only seen him a few times over the past 30 years, but I worked with Joe in public accounting, back in the mid 70s.  Joe was my boss on a few jobs and I always admired him for his kindness, incredible memory, sports knowledge and his ability to obtain a perfect work/life balance, way before that was actually a thing.  
Joe was also a man of compassion and always willing to help others.  I just hope his family realizes how loved he was and how he helped so many people over the years.  
We use to debate which was the greatest song ever written.  For Joe, it was Cats in the Cradle, by Harry Chapin.  We even went to a Harry Chapin concert back in the day.  When you listen to the words of that song, you know why he loved his family so much and cherished every minute he had with them,  May you rest in peace Joe.  You are truly missed.

Dear Boland Family,  

So sorry for the loss of Joe.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.  Along with his coaching expertise Joe was a kind and thoughtful person.  We enjoyed seeing him around KofP,  Chatting about  volleyball, his grand children and the Phillies.  Joe had a great sense of humor.  He will be sorely missed.   Again, so sorry for your loss.  Peace be with you.

This is a sad day.  Joe was a Pennsylvania volleyball icon possessed of a fiery passion for the game and the many players whose lives he enriched as coach, teacher, mentor, organizer, and friend.  Thank you for your friendship and many kindnesses.  Dave

Dear Boland family, we are very sorry to hear of the passing of Joe.  He was a wonderful person and coach-  For many years he instilled in the players a level of respect for each other, to enjoy what your doing and focus on your future passions, whatever they may be.  He was a true inspiration.  We will remember him and wish the family many wonderful memories of a great guy.  

Prayers and condolences from my family to yours. Joe was always polite and respectful regardless of the  situation. I have known Joe as both a coach to my children Victoria and Vanessa as well as an official sharing many a conversation about  a call. He will be missed .
