Leroy “ROY” Dann of Phoenixville passed away peacefully with his son, Kenny and daughter-in-law, Lee at his side. He was 3 weeks shy of his 93rd birthday. Born in Norristown, he was the only son of Sylvester and Margaret Davis Dann. Until Roy was out of high school, the Dann family lived with his maternal grandparents in West Conshohocken and attended Conshohocken Schools. He had an interest in Carpentry and after high school, he and his Dad built a home for the family on Matsonford Road. They later worked together to build a cottage on Lake Wallenpaupack. He continued his love of carpentry, cabinet making and construction throughout his life and retired from S. W. Bajus, LTD in June of 2006
Roy was a descendent of Peter Matson (1712-1778), through his mother’s side. Peter Matson was one of the early Swedish Settlers near Matsons Ferry, which is Now West Conshohocken. This was given by a Land Grant from William Penn.
He met the love of his life, Geraldine McNeill in 1964 and they married in 1965. He then moved to her existing home in Wayne. When he married Gerry, he “inherited” her children, Marjorie McNeill Dayton, James McNeill, Kenneth McNeill and Patricia McNeill. Since Marge was married and Jim was going into the Air Force, he grew very close to the 2 younger children, Kenny and Pat and considered them his children. Sadly, his daughter, Patricia McNeill Willis predeceased Roy in August of 2020.
Leroy and Gerry traveled a lot while employed and more when they retired. When they were not at their week-end home in the Poconos, they were cruising throughout the world to many destinations such as Aruba, the Caribbean and the Panama Canal. They visited Florida frequently are rarely missed DisneyWorld while they were there. They went to Alaska twice and they were excited to take helicopter tour over Mount McKinley. Their second trip to Alaska, their young teen great grandsons, Kevin and Kenny (“the twinies)”accompanied them.
Roy moved to Phoenixville to be near his son and his family after his wife of 50 years passed away in July of 2015. He lived in an apartment across the hall where he enjoyed dinner nearly every night with Kenny and Lee, or went out to lunch or dinner with other members of his immediate family. He also went out with good friends like Jeanne and George Sillup, and was invited into their homes. He often had lunch with his very best friend Craig Miller and sometimes other former co-workers would come along as well. Although there was an age difference between Roy and Craig they continued having lunch long after Roy’s retirement.
Leroy will be sorely missed by his son, Kenny McNeill and his wife, Janet Lee McNeill. Also leaving a void in their lives, he will be remembered by his granddaughters, Christy Johnson (Len) and Janay Jackson (Michael) and his great-grandchildren, Kevin Gordon (Jennifer) and Kenny Gordon, Olivia Jackson and Owen Jackson. All played a great part in his support system before, during and prior to his last and final journey which took place November 29, 2024.
Viewing and Service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at Alleva Funeral Home at 1724 E. Lancaster Avenue, Paoli. Burial will follow immediately thereafter at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, 352 S. Gulph Road, King of Prussia.
