Salvatore D. Rotondo, 78, of Bridgeport, PA, passed away at home on Sunday, September 16th, 2018. Sal was preceded in death by his wife, Judith M. (nee Carr) Rotondo. He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Robert) Moley, Christopher (Therese) Rotondo, Carla Rotondo, and Salvatore (Mary) Rotondo, as well as 7 grandchildren: Mark, Jack, Daniel, Salvatore, Leo, Ryan, and Grace. Also surviving are 3 siblings; Nicholas (Kathleen) Rotondo, Dolores (Frank) Spoerl & Carmela (the late Philip) Orangers. Sal graduated with honors from West Chester State College in 1962 with a BS in Comprehensive Social Studies and English. Upon graduation, he accepted a teaching position in the Norristown School District from 1962-1967, at Stewart Junior High School, where he taught Social Studies and English. He was head 9th grade varsity baseball coach from 1963-1967 where they went undefeated during the 1967 season. In 1967 he accepted a position teaching 8th grade Social Studies and English with the Upper Merion School District. While at Upper Merion, he continued his education, receiving his master’s degree from Villanova University. During the 1985-1986 school year, he was appointed principal of Bridgeport Elementary School. Sal served as principal from 1985-2001, when he retired. Upon receipt of an elementary principalship degree from Villanova, he was appointed an adjunct professor in Villanova’s Education Division. From 2001 to present he served as a professor and supervisor of student teaching at Cabrini University. Sal was the recipient of the Triple S Sportsman’s Club Award in 1967, the National Blue Ribbon Principal Award in 2001, and the Valley Forge Optimist Club’s Life Membership Award. He was also a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where he worshiped until its closing in 2014. Sal was a lifelong sports fan, especially enjoying the Philadelphia Phillies, Villanova basketball, and Notre Dame football. He enjoyed his second residence in Ocean City, New Jersey where he enjoyed spending time on the beach with his grandchildren and cooking breakfast for family and guests. In Ocean City, he was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, September 20th, 2018, from 5pm-8pm at Bacchi Funeral Home: 805 Dekalb St. Bridgeport, PA, and again on Friday September 21, 2018 from 930-11AM at Sacred Heart Church: 120 Jefferson St. Swedesburg, PA. Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11am. Burial will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Salvatore D.
