Lu, 93, went to be with the Lord peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Lu was born in Colome, South Dakota to Claude and Josephine Gossard. Her family lived on the farm until her father felt the call to the ministry. This took the family to many locations in Nebraska. Lu worked at a hospital in the kitchen while living with her sister Gwen in Omaha the summer of her junior year in high school. After graduating from McPherson Christian School in McPherson, Kansas. Lu and Gwen lived in Omaha where she worked at Wonder Bread. It was at this time she met Bob, the love of her life. She married Robert "Bob" Johnson April 1, 1947 in Omaha, NE. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Mike, Marsha, Dave, and Donna. Bob's job took them to Cedar Falls, Iowa; Waterloo, Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska; Spokane, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Casper, Wyoming; and Bellevue, Nebraska where she lived the last 54 years of her life.
For several years Lu put her family first as a housewife and mother, and in 1962 she started working in the office of the American Red Cross in Casper, Wyoming. The family moved to Bellevue, Nebraska in 1966, where she worked in the office of Oliver Tractor Company, Omaha, Nebraska until retirement in 1991. Lu loved helping and being with people. She was very successful and enjoyed selling Avon for three years starting in 1980. After retiring, Lu volunteered at Clarkson Hospital, Sarpy County Courthouse, and was at Midlands Hospital until stepping down when she turned 89. She was an active member of Rockbrook United Methodist Church, participating in several groups and activities.
She especially enjoyed going to lunch after church with her close friends. Lu also looked forward to lunches with her dear friends she volunteered with at Midlands Hospital. Lu was an avid reader, reading 3-5 books per week. Family was so dear to her and she loved them immensely, enjoying time with all of them, attending activities & spending special time together. She was loved, respected and adored by everyone she met.
Lu is survived by her daughters Marsha (Art) Lienemann, Ayr, NE; Donna (Ted) Hernandez, Papillion, NE; sons Mike (Ranell) Johnson, Lincoln, NE; Dave (Kathy) Johnson, Emporia, KS; grandchildren Angie(Chris) Claussen, Olathe, KS; Michelle (Brett) Klug, Gretna, NE; Bob Lienemann, Richfield, NE; Jana (Eric) McNeill, Ayr, NE; Matt (Lisa) Johnson, Emporia, KS; Kristen (Jeremy) Way, Emporia, KS; Erin Pacha, Papillion, NE; Kay (Paul) Wickert, Mill Creek, WA; Cortney (Doug) Donaldson, Papillion, NE. Her great grandchildren Annika and Alina Claussen; Brooks and Brennan Klug; Colten, Brinley and Jaksen McNeill; Erica and Matthew Hernandez; Chayce Johnson; Seth and Piper Way; P.J. and Eli Wickert; Dean, Brooklyn and Cole Donaldson, and great-great grandson Eli Hernandez. She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Josephine Gossard; husband, Robert Johnson; sisters Gwen Kuenning, Evelyn Harrold; brothers, Clair Gossard and Robert Gossard, Sr. A family service will be held Saturday, May 9, 10:30 A.M. at Rockbrook United Methodist Church, Omaha, NE.
