The youngest of 10 children, Pat grew up in Northeast Omaha, attending St. Therese Elementary and Notre Dame High School Academy. In 1953, Pat and Dick Kimball were married at St. Therese Church and created a family, eventually reaching five children.
Dick was commissioned into the Air Force in 1954 and began a 20-year career of seven stateside and overseas assignments, with 15 changes of domiciles. Pat was the “glue” that held the family together during Dick’s various duty absences, including a year’s tour in Southeast Asia.
The Kimball’s lived on Papillion’s South Beadle Street for 32 years. It quickly became the gathering hub for friends of children Pat, Pam, Bud, Butch and Jim. Mom became a favorite of many revelers and earned the affectionate name of “Ma Kimball”.
A move to a larger home in 2000 brought even more activities in the form of cookouts and family gatherings, especially on Christmas Eve when “Santa” continued to show up for 38 consecutive years. Santa usually appeared after Grandpa received a reminder nudge to the ribs from Grandma.
Pat particularly enjoyed New Year’s festivities when all grandchildren were invited to spend the evening playing games and waiting for the special thrill of running around the outside of the house shouting and banging pots and pans (which Grandma provided).
Pat’s unconditional joy and love was the family. She loved to baby sit and particularly enjoyed attending the children’s and grandchildren’s various activities as they grew older. She was “chauffer” to so many after school events and a veteran grandstand, bleacher, and theater production watcher.
Family was everything to this marvelous Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. And she was everything to us. Thanks for the memories, dearest Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. We miss you so.
