

Edgar Lewis “Ed” Smoot, 80, of Biardstown, passed away Sunday, June 05, 2016. Mr. Smoot, the son of Edgar & Louise Sharp Smoot, was born April 14, 1936, in Fannin County. Ed served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He worked a number of years for Cox Sheet Metal in Ft. Worth. In 1972, he bought a farm in Biardstown, and in 1992, he moved to Biardstown where he was a rancher. Ed was an avid pilot and even built his own plane which he landed on his ranch. He was a master builder and enjoyed motorcycles and fishing. Ed was a tireless member of the Biardstown Volunteer Fire Department having prepared BBQ for their fund raisers from 1994 – 2014. His parents and his brother, Ronnie Smoot, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hatch Smoot, sons, Clayton Smoot & wife Becky of Biardstown, Paul Smoot & wife Debbie of Burleson, Danny Smoot & wife Charli of Pattonville, Kenny Horne of Paris and Jason Horne & wife Jatonne of Texarkana, a daughter, Suzanne Michael of Biardstown, the mother of his children, Sherry Smoot of Arlington, grandchildren, Marc Smoot of Biardstown, Adam Smoot of Biardstown, Amanda Smoot of Arlington, Laura Rossi & husband Andrew of Arlington, Matthew Smoot of Burleson, Jacob Smoot of Burleson, Hunter Hoffman & wife Kelly of Reno, Janet Justiss & husband Mason of the USN in San Diego, CA, Clinton Smoot of the USN in Guam, Nathan Horne of Paris, Justin Horne of Paris, Caleb Horne of Texarkana, Caden Horne of Texarkana, Makenzie Michael of Biardstown and Brooke Michael of Biardstown, three great grandchildren, Kolt Spence, Luke Spence and Atticus Payne, his special farm dog, Spot, along with a plethora of friends. Casket bearers will be: Marc Smoot, Adam Smoot, Hunter Hoffman, Clinton Smoot, Kenny Horne and Jason Horne.
