

James Gregory “Greg” Townsend, 66, of Paris, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016, at the V. A. Medical Center in Dallas. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services, with military rites, for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14th at Pyles Cemetery with Larry Roberts and Rev. Beverly Olsen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m. Monday, June 13th at the funeral home. Greg, the son of Byron & Betsy Pridemore Townsend, was born July 2, 1949, in Lamar County. He graduated from Central High School. During the Vietnam War he served in the U. S. Navy. Greg was an electrician at the Campbell Soup Company for a number of years before beginning his career as a truck driver. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a model airplane enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his father, a granddaughter, Megan Lawson and two brothers, Robert Townsend and Terry Townsend. Survivors include his mother, Betsy Townsend of Direct, three children, Christy Lawson & husband Danny of Blossom, Holly Scott & husband Marty of Paris and Kelly Nichols & husband John of Paris, grandchildren, Ashley Stephens & husband Koleton, Alexis Lawson, Kimberlyn Scott, Kameron Scott, J. J. Freelen & wife Chelle, Will Freelen and Breanna Nichols, a great granddaughter, Stella Stephens, a sister-in-law, Patti Townsend, two nephews, Judd Townsend and Corey Townsend along with a host of friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial, P. O. Box 1133, Paris, TX 75461.
