Larry Donald Moore Jr.

A celebration of Larry’s life, with military honors, is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A service, with military honors, will be at a later date at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery for friends, service members, and family to attend.

Larry was born in Nebraska, but reared in Texas. He played football at Prairiland High School, proudly wearing # 52. He loved the sport, to say the least, and earned the nickname “Moose”. Larry graduated in 1979, and joined the U. S. Navy to see the world; from boot camp in Florida, he was sent to San Diego, California where he became a laboratory technician. He married Caren during this time and they started their life’s journey together. From San Diego, he was stationed to the 2nd Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina at the Naval Hospital. Larry advanced his tour of the world and was moved to Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, where he and Caren started their family –having a daughter, Carressa. After almost four years of sun and fun, they were given orders to Millington, Tennessee. They had a son, Lance, and Larry was soon on independent deployment to Diego Garcia for 18 months. The family followed that deployment with a move to Newport/Middletown, Rhode Island. In Rhode Island, Larry sought to advance his medical career by attending the University of Rhode Island to pursue a degree as a Registered Nurse. The family received transfer for a move to Portsmouth/Smithfield, Virginia. He was sent on deployment to Cuba as a Critical Care Nurse for terrorists who were detained by the government. Larry was medically retired after sustaining a back injury after 26 and one half years of service as a Lieutenant in the Navy. Coming up through the ranks made him a better supervisor in his civilian career at the Children’s Hospital on the cancer wing of CHKD. Larry and Caren fully retired after moving back home to Texas to be with their first-born grandchild, Piper, and daughter. Two more grandchildren, Logan & Presley came at a later date and each did their due diligence at keeping Larry & Caren actively engaged. Larry’s love for children was seen throughout his career, from Easter egg hunts to Santa present exchanges – which Caren helped organize. He was actively involved in his own kid’s lives through their sports and musical interests. He was well-traveled thanks to his military service and love for adventure. He proudly served his Lord and country as an RN Critical-Care Nurse for almost 27 years. Anyone that knew Larry was aware of his love for football, computers, trains, cars, and rock’n’roll.

Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years and 11 months, Caren Wade Moore of Paris, TX; a daughter, Carressa Simmons and a son, Lance Moore; grandchildren, Piper Simmons, Presley Simmons, and Logan Moore; mother, Lucille Golden-McKeever; sister, Lynette Morgan; father-in-law, Carl Wade along with numerous other loving extended family members and a plethora of friends.
