Sam A. Buzbee

Sam A. Buzbee, the only child of David and Georgia Warthan Buzbee, was born March 5, 1947, in Clarksville, Texas, and died July 29, 2016, at Paris Regional Medical Center at 69 years of age. The family has scheduled a memorial service for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, Texas, where Sam was a long-time member. Cremation was under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Roger Joyce, Rob Chewning, Trey Chewning, Harry Reynolds, A. W. “Plug” Clem, Byron Robertson, and Brenda Whiteman Booth. Sam graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1971, with a degree in architecture, and was licensed in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, and also ran the family lumber yard from 1981 until its sale. He worked for several architectural and engineering firms in all three states during his career, including Lightfoot & Associates and Hayter Engineering, both in Paris, Texas, and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma; working on projects at various schools and churches, and designing numerous buildings across Northeast Texas. He was a former member of the Clarksville Rotary Club, the Red River County Historical Society, the American Institute of Architects, and a former director of 410 Water Supply Corporation. In his spare time, Sam was a model train enthusiast, and spent many happy hours building train models and laying track; and was a member of the Oklahoma, Red River & Texas Railroad Club. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Joyce Buzbee, and three children, Kelli Chewning and husband, Rob of Midwest City, OK, Craig Buzbee of DeQueen, AR and Bryce Buzbee of DeQueen, AR. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Trey Chewning, Alexandra Buzbee, Cash Buzbee, and Ivy Buzbee; by two paternal aunts, Sybil Coffman and Donnie Whiteman, and by two maternal aunts, Maxine Milks and Dimple DePrato, along with numerous cousins and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Warthan Cemetery Association, c/o Cynthia Silman, 135 Lantana Way, San Antonio, Texas 78258.
