It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Margaret Barker, affectionately known as Thea, who departed this life on the 10th of May, 2024, in Kingman, Arizona. Born on the 14th of November, 1953, in Boston, Massachusetts, she reached the age of 70 years. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by those who were blessed to have felt her presence. Thea left a loving impression on everyone she met. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and her gifts of time and expertise given as an extension of her warm heart.
Thea embodied a remarkable blend of tenacity, kindness, creativity, and methodical thinking. She was a passionate artist and traveler with the spirit of an explorer, finding joy in uncovering the essence of different cultures and their crafts. The works of Frida Kahlo, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Vincent van Gogh deeply inspired her. Thea's multifaceted talents encompassed being an exceptional creative, an oil and acrylic painting instructor specializing in fine art, a self-taught and skilled seamstress, and an individual with an unwavering passion for art, furnishings, interiors, collectibles, design, and architecture.
Thea had a deep love for her family, friends, and animals. Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Koney Cash. She is survived by her husband Dan Barker of 33 years; her beloved sons and daughters: Anthony Alario, Dominic Alario, Chelsea Barker, DJ Barker, Brandy Hoekstra; four grandchildren; and her five sisters: Sandy Koney of FL, Deborah Arnold of NC, Donna Rosenfield of RI, Bonnie Latini of MA, and Terry Surprenant of FL. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
