Janice Carol Short, a sweet, loving, and endlessly kind soul, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at the age of 79. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she grew up in Shannon, Georgia, and graduated from Model High School. Janice carried the gentle spirit of her hometown with her throughout her life, touching everyone she met with her warm smile and generous heart.
She was the beloved daughter of Mildred Shirley Shugart and Jewell Douglas Shugart, and the cherished sister of Jewell Douglas Shugart, Jr. Janice is also survived by her first cousins, Cathy Owens of Calhoun, Georgia, and Renee Wright of Marietta, Georgia. She made her final home in Salome, Arizona, where she embraced the quiet beauty of ranch life.
Janice’s working life reflected her strong work ethic and adventurous spirit. She was employed at Fox Manufacturing in Rome, Georgia, worked at Russell Stover in Kansas City, Missouri, and proudly owned and operated Securities Courier Service in Kansas City. She later became a rancher in the Polo and Braymer, Missouri areas before devoting herself fully to her role as a devoted homemaker. No matter the job, Janice approached every task with care and integrity.
Above all, Janice was known for her loving and friendly nature. She was always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and her kindness left a lasting impression on family and friends alike. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a woman who lived with an open heart and a gentle soul.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Janice’s love continues to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, wrapped in the same warmth and kindness she so freely gave to others.
