He was born on Dec. 25, 1935, in Wood County, WV, a son of the late Okey G. and Verta Holbert Murphy. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local 1085.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, H. Pauline Riel Murphy; two sons, James Murphy of Washington, WV and Jason Murphy of Anaheim, CA; one brother, William Murphy of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew, and four sisters, Lillie Richards, Gertrude Joy, Romie Brand, and Betty Moss.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Graveside services will be held immediately following the visitation at Sunset Memory Gardens.
