ROBERT "Speedy" Atkinson

Speedy retired from Union Insulation and was a Veteran of The Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle, Pee Wee Football Association, PSHS Softball Athletics and Wood County Sports Association for 30 years; he was also President of Wood County Sports Association. Speedy was known for his love of sports and especially coaching girls’ softball for many years. He married Shirley Ann Peck on March 20, 1954.

Speedy will be deeply missed by his wife, Shirley Ann, sons, Larry D and Robert A. Atkinson, both of Parkersburg, daughters, Dottie Havens of Parkersburg, Connie VanDale of Parkersburg, Jackie Kay DeProspero (Dan) of Apex, NC, grandchildren, David Havens, Robby Atkinson, Joshua VanDale of Parkersburg, Heather Atkinson of Tampa FL, Michael (Christina) of Charleston, Mika (Daniel) Kovic of Cary, NC, Dylan and Ian DeProspero of Apex, NC, Nickie Atkinson, Scott Cunningham of Ripley, Tim and Shane VanDale both of Parkersburg, Great-Grandchildren Leo Kovic and Sydney Reynolds.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Atkinson, niece Leanda Atkinson, Son-in-Law Danny.

Visitation will be Friday, February 26, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Funeral services will be Monday, February 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Boone and Raymond Tanner officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
