When I’m looking at Ann’s picture now on this page (yatesmemorial.ca), I and Hannu, can recall her lovely face and personality as we first time met her in Paris year 1976.

Hannu had been recruited to a research group in the OECD, Paris to create an economic model and study of the future called ”Interfutures”. I arrived to Paris a bit later after our marriage in Finland. Very soon II learned to know Brian, Hannu’s colleague in the project. Hannu and Brian became soon very best friends together with Dennis and Randy Warner from States, Paul and Betsy Masson from Canada and Johnny and Lisbeth Åkerholm from Finland. Brian had arrived alone to Paris and was impatiently waiting for his fiancée Ann to arrive. I can still remember his loving eyes as he was portraying Ann, the most wonderful girl in the world.

Ann had to return home after her first visit to Paris but they planned to have the most romantic thing one can imagine, to get married in Paris. And that’s what happened. The wedding was kept according to the French law in the Hotel de Ville of the Marie (Mayor) of their arrondisment in Paris. I was honored to organize the reception after the wedding on the roof top of our house in St. Cloud, near Paris. Unfortunately the sunny day was turning to a rainy one and at the last moment I had to move the whole buffet with dishes to Brian’s and Ann’s apartment in down town. Luckily we were young and carefree at that time and with the help of above mentionned people everything was in order though a bit late. I can remember how lovely and fun the party was. Champagne bottle caps were popping and floating to the courtyard balconies of the neighborhood.

We had countless trips with Ann and Brian to enjoy delicious Sunday lunches in Paris or in the countryside or by the sea in Honfleur, Deauville, St. Malo etc. and gourmet weekend trips to Bretagne and Bourgogne enjoying Michelin star restaurants like Georges Blanc in Vonnas or Le Taillevent in Paris. At that time we were heavy smokers (smoking was allowed in restaurants!) and in Taillevent the top of the top was when the waiters lit our cigarettes at lightning speed.
What an experince to be young and in love in Paris! 

We moved back to Finland before Ann and Brian to Canada. But our friendship stayed fast. Kathleen was just some months old when we viseted the small family in Toronto.  Ann and Brian payed us a visit some years later with Kathleen and Meaghan. Our sons Oskari and Aleksi were between 1,5 to four years old then. I remember Brian having some back problems but otherwise they were a happy family. When Ann called us to tell that Brian had died the day before we were as choked as when I got the message from Barry that Ann had died last night. 

We are happy that we had the opportunity to get to know Barry. Ann’s beloved husband. They visited me and Hannu in Brussels mid 2000 when I worked for the European Parliament. Ann and Barry were on their regular trip to Paris. We had some nice days together, Gent and Brygge were our tourist destinations then.
We did not know that it would be our last meeting with Ann.

We have such wonderful memories of Ann that we will always keep with us. Kathlee, Meaghan, Barry we never forget Ann. Our sincer condolences to you all.

I was so shocked and saddened by the news of Ann's passing. I became a neighbour of Ann's just a couple of years ago but only really got to meet and chat with her after she got her darling little pup, Magda....who, despite her miniature size would still manage to "drag" Ann excitedly across the lawn to greet my dog, Mac, whenever we were passing....a frequent event that never failed to make us both laugh. Although I didn't really know Ann, what I did sense, just by those brief encounters was that she was a very kind and jolly lady who was always smiling.....and never failed to make me smile. My condolences to Barry and family. Rest peacefully Ann. 

I was so saddened to read of Ann's passing. I first met her when she brought Kathleen and Meaghan to their Brownie meeting in Barrhaven, where her sister Jane and I were leaders. They had just come home from France after Brian's death. We stayed in touch through the girls' Guiding time; she was always an incredibly supportive Mom and so dedicated to her daughters. We reconnected a few years later as managers of volunteers, when she was with the aphasia group - a lovely surprise to meet up again. I was so pleased to hear she had re-married and it sounds like a wonderful fairy-tale story. She deserved those happy years, and many more. Sincerest sympathies to Barry, Kathleen, Meaghan, Jane and families.

Rest In Peace dearest Ann. I can hear Ann chuckling as I plagiarize part of Barry’s heartfelt memorial: Ann and I first met on August 13th, 1972 when I started my first full-time job - we could hardly avoid each other since my drafting table faced her workspace. We shared many ‘firsts’ and even when separated by a few, hundreds or thousands of miles, we remained best friends. I will miss Ann’s humour and kindness. My condolences and love to all Ann’s family and friends. 

Ann and I met on November 1st, 1967 in a Psychology 110 course at Southam Hall, Carleton University, Ottawa. That day began a relationship that lasted seven years and only ended because I was too young and too unwise to appreciate what a marvellous person Ann was, and how utterly and totally well-suited we were for each other. Both of us then went on to have had our separate lives, marriages and beautiful children. Ann's husband, the father of her children, Brain Molloy died at age 40 in 1987 of cancer. Ann and I re-connected in 2000, and were married in 2002 to begin what was for both of us a fairy-tale love affair. We were completely happy together, always, basking in each others' unconditional love. I have no sufficient words to express the loss I feel. I loved her so very much. 

And yes, Barry, I remember those days so well at Carleton. She was then, and will always be, the love of your life. It was wonderful that you reconnected and had such an amazing time in later years. Tony and I are so saddened to have lost a sister-in-law, but also a special friend, bon vivant, and sweet funny lady.
