On Tuesday, July 20, we were happily biking the islands of Denman and Hornby when he suddenly collapsed while biking up a hill.
Chuck was predeceased by parents Ruth and Mel McMann and brother Billy. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret; children Kristin (Jan) and Jeff (Denly) of Qualicum Beach and Jonathan (Heidi) of Calgary. Chuck also leaves behind grandchildren Maria, Julianne, Chantelle, Natalie, Tegan, Jack, Isla, and Rory.
To know Chuck was to love him. He will be greatly missed. Our family has been struggling to cope with the loss of our role model, our mainstay.
Chuck was very thankful for his life and what he considered his many blessings.
His CFL career, both as player and coach, and coaching at McGill and University of Waterloo, gave him much pleasure as well as his relationships with many colleagues, players, coaches, equipment guys…the team.
Chuck loved his family, his friends, his Lord and gave selflessly in as many opportunities as presented. He always helped unstintingly, took care of things that needed doing - felt it was his ‘gift’ and he enjoyed implementing it!
.
He was involved in several charities that would benefit from donations in his honour in lieu of flowers. Active at Qualicum Beach’s St. Stephen’s United Church; involved life long in Hockey Ministries International; a faithful volunteer at North Island Wildlife Rehabilitation Association; a weekly driver for the Parksville Salvation Army Food Bank; and supporter of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
A memorial service will be held in the Allsbrook Room at Yates Memorial Services on Friday, July 30th at 2:00pm. Due to gathering size restrictions, please contact the family directly to RSVP by emailing [email protected] or texting 250.974.3735.
