It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother Edith May Zboyovsky nee Gates. We lost not only a mother, but a friend and confidant. Her passing will leave a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Mom ( Edie ) was born in Armstrong, BC on March 9, 1930, and died December 2, 2024 in Qualicum Beach BC.
She lived in several places in BC settling on a lovely property in Qualicum with her husband Peter for the last forty-four years.
Mom found comfort in her Baha'i faith and in the simple pleasures of life that included working in her Japanese inspired garden, spending time in nature and sitting down with a good history book.
She was the heart and soul of the family. Mom particularly enjoyed visiting in person with her growing family, but also devoted many hours to communicating by phone with friends and family across the country.
Mom will be remembered for her zest for life, kind-heartedness, great sense of style, concern for her family, and sometimes cheeky and spicy nature. This was certainly evidenced by her determination to live independently at home with Peter until recently, despite some health issues.
We the family, are very grateful for the prayers, personal visits and phone calls that Mom received from extended family and friends. This added such richness to her final days!
The Trillium Lodge Hospice and in particular ‘Will’, provided kindness and special attention to Mom during her time with them.
Edie is survived by her husband Peter, five children; Aleta, Linda, Beth, Gordon and Daryl. She also leaves ten cherished grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
We say goodbye to a wonderful woman and will honor Mom in a ‘Celebration of Life’ this summer.
