With a heavy heart of sorrow, I write these words to announce Sergeant Edward Stanley Popiel died peacefully on January 4, 2015 in Nanaimo General Hospital in the loving arms of his wife of thirty years, Penny Popiel. Ed will be sadly missed by Deana, Brendan, Guy, Tim, Myles, Kyla, Bill, Terri, Will, Brendan M., Guy Benson, Andrea, Steve, Jeremy, Brock, Brian-Edward and Bradley.
Sergeant Edward Popiel joined the Winnipeg Police Department May 5, 1961 and was in Recruitment Class #57. Ed carried his badge proudly, #138 for 33 years before retiring to the West coast.
He enjoyed planting tomatoes, fishing pickerel, canning dills and making potato pancakes. He was predeceased by his twin sister Adeline York.
A memorial service will be announced soon.
