Eric slipped away peacefully on December 27th, 2024, in Parksville, BC. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Eric also leaves behind eight beautiful grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Born on April 28th, 1946 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Eric was the eldest of 5 siblings (Joost, Judy, Steve, and Adam). As a young child, his family emigrated to Canada, and settled in Richmond, BC. Eric would later marry Linda - the love of his life, and began a journey that would span nearly six decades. Eric and Linda built their lives on Vancouver Island and had three daughters, Kim(Ray), Sonya(Steve), and Corrie(Shane). Over the years, he lived in many places before finding his true calling in Ucluelet. Eric’s passion, besides Linda, was his devotion to seeing Ucluelet thrive and grow. His commitment led him to serve on various boards and projects focused on sustainable development and respecting the First Nations people. He held positions on the village council and proudly acted as mayor over the years. He was a man known for wearing many hats, even Santa Claus’s! Eric was an enthusiastic umpire and referee and would gladly volunteer his skills wherever it was needed. His one particular passion was organizing poker tournaments where he happily took everyone’s money! The “Russcher Hand” is infamous among his poker friends.
A celebration honouring his life will be planned for the summer of 2025 in Ucluelet. It will be a gathering open to everyone who was touched by Eric’s kindness, generosity, booming voice and mad poker skills.
Rest easy Dad, you will forever remain etched in our hearts.
