It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Evlyn Meyer, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend. She passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 alongside family. She left behind so many great memories and was always there for her loved ones.
She was born to Eunice and Mike Jaworski in Port Alberni, where she spent the first half of her life. She met the love of her life, Dan Meyer, and was married on August 1, 1959. She had her first son, Ricky, who unfortunately was not with us for long. She went on to have sons, Danny and Norman. She loved all her sons with all her heart, and made sure that her family always felt that love. They lived happily in Port Alberni until her sons were grown. For the latter half of her life, Ev lived with Dan in Qualicum Beach, with her sons’ families nearby. Ev enjoyed family outings, camping, golfing, and getting together with other family and lifelong friends that were near and dear to her. As a mother, she was always there for every sports event, birthday, and holiday, as she was for her grandchildren as well. She was the driving force of keeping her family so close. She was always present in everyone’s life, whether it be playing card games or golf, baking with her grandchildren, or just visiting with us all.
What was most important to her was taking time to be with those she loved, for that was what made her the happiest. She never backed down, and stood up for others throughout her life, even as a young girl. She was fiercely caring to all those that knew her. She showed us how to take time to look around at all the goodness the world can offer.
Evlyn leaves behind her two sons, Danny (Joanne) and Norman (Mary), as well as grandchildren, Carly, Lindsay (Brandon), Nicole (Jennie), and Kristen (Adam), and many nieces and nephews. Ev has joined with her brothers, Wayne (Carol) and Al (Ev), and sister Alma (Ron), and is now reunited with her beloved husband Dan and cherished son Ricky, in heaven.
She would want to be remembered as the caring, loving person she was. “Let my name be ever the household word that it always was / Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.” (Henry Scott Holland 11-18) Ev will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by everyone.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parksville and Qualicum branch of BC & Alberta Guide Dogs at bcandalbertaguidedogs.com. Ev was good friends with Arlene, her neighbour, who trained guide dogs, which Ev absolutely loved to be around, and she so dearly enjoyed their visits.
