Gordon Robert Soderstrom

Gordon passed away peacefully in Nanaimo, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence, in 2016. He is survived by his children Steve (Monica), Karen (Neil), Ian (Beth), and Janet; his eight grandchildren Erik (Janelle), Sean (Brooke), Alyssa, Michelle, Bennett (Alex), Christine, Nicole (Dylan), and Kevin (Nicole); and his great-grandchildren Hanna, Ettam Henrik, Peyton, Ryann and Fredrik.

Born in Prince albert, Saskatchewan to Gunnar and Selma, Gordon was the second oldest of four children. He is survived by his sister, Carol Saunders and his Aunt, Doris McNutt of kamloops. He will also be greatly missed by his cousin, Beverley and the family in California, as well as many relatives in BC and Saskatchewan.

Gordon and Florence made their home in North Vancouver for most of their lives before settling in Ladysmith for their retirement years. One of Gordon's proudest accomplishments was the family cabin at Gun Lake, which he built with the help of his family - from digging the foundation to hanging the roof trusses. The memories created at Gun Lake will be cherished by generations.

A skilled woodworker, Gordon crafted many pieces of furniture that continued to be enjoyed throughout the family. During his time at Origin/Astoria at Longwood, the care and empathy shown by the staff was deeply appreciated. Gordon made friends easily, especially among his cherished pool buddies, Ernie, Jack (Lois) and Dan (Dawana).

Some of his happiest moments were spent at Evening Cove, watching his grandchildren play in the sand and swing from the rope, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at a later date.
