

Harley is survived by the love of his life, wife of 49 years Sandra; son Jeremy (Heidi) of Surrey, daughter Stacey (Braden) of Surrey; grandchildren Hilary, Abigail, and Emily; brother Gerald (Louise) of Nova Scotia; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Weldon Newman and Beatrice, brother Arnold and sisters Doris and Leona.
Harley was born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia on May 24, 1950, he was raised in Beach Meadows Nova Scotia. In 1972 at the recommendation of his cousin, also from Nova Scotia. He moved to Port Alberni in the pursuit of work. Harley worked at the Alberni Pacific Division on the Green chain until he got a position within his trade as Mechanical Draftsman at Alberni Plywoods Mill in Port Alberni. Harley found his long-time career when he began working for Fisheries and Oceans Canada. He began his career at Nitinat Hatchery working in salmon enhancement, through his dedication and hard work he was promoted to Operations Manager at Robertson Creek Hatchery where he worked until his retirement.
He spent his free-time hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, curling among many other hobbies. He played baseball with the Challengers, served a term as President of Alberni Valley Curling Club and was an active member of the Maritimer’s Club. Harley loved animals including the many dogs he had throughout his life.
Harley was a thoughtful, caring, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His retirement years were spent enjoying his grandchildren as well as quality time with his wife and friends. Harley was a well-loved member of the community, always happy to help a friend and give you a good laugh.
He will be dearly missed.
