A Life of Music, Faith, and Compassion
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Blakley, who quietly left this world on December 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of her husband, Brad Blakley. Born on May 19, 1964, in Thompson, Manitoba, and raised in Winnipeg, Joanne’s life was a vibrant tapestry of music, entrepreneurship, cultural pride, and unwavering faith.
A Melody of Early Life and Passion
Joanne’s journey began in the small town of Thompson, where she spent her early years before growing up in the dynamic city of Winnipeg. Her love for music blossomed early, leading her to pursue jazz singing and a bachelor’s degree in music at the Universities of Brandon and Antigonish. Music wasn’t just a career for Joanne—it was a lifelong passion that echoed through every chapter of her life.
A Pillar of Family and Heritage
As the eldest of three sisters—Betty and Helina—Joanne took immense pride in guiding and supporting her siblings. Born to Polish parents, she cherished her heritage, ensuring her family remained deeply connected to their cultural roots and the warmth of a faith that grounded them all. Joanne often reflected on how their identity was a beautiful blend of old-world traditions and new-world resilience.
Compassion in Every Form
Joanne’s heart extended beyond her family. A devoted animal lover, she had a special place in her heart for cats. Strays found shelter on her porch, and she could often be seen feeding neighborhood felines with the same kindness she showed people. Her entrepreneurial spirit, meanwhile, propelled her into the business world, where she thrived in that environment.
Love, Partnership, and Legacy
In 1990, Joanne met the love of her life, Brad Blakley. Their bond grew swiftly, culminating in a summer wedding at Holy Ghost Church in Winnipeg in 1994. Together, they built a life of partnership in every sense—business, adventure, and faith. Brad was her constant companion, and their teamwork became the foundation of their shared dreams.
Faith and Resilience
Joanne’s faith was the compass of her life. Diagnosed with significant health challenges in her youth, she faced each day with gratitude, leaning on her trust in God. Her favorite scripture, John 3:16, was a testament to her belief in divine love and grace. She often shared her mantra, “Always be good with God,” a phrase that encapsulated her gentle, reflective spirit.
A Legacy of Light
Even in her final days, Joanne radiated charm, wit, and positivity. She approached life with a rare blend of joy and gratitude, savoring every moment. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her legacy endures in the melodies she sang and the countless lives she touched through her kindness.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Brad, her sisters Betty and Helina, and her mother Teresa as well as countless friends and community members who were uplifted by her presence. Though she may no longer be with us, her song lives on.
In memory of Joanne, consider volunteering at a local animal shelter, sharing a song, or simply saying a prayer of thanks—for in these acts, her spirit will be felt anew.
Rest in peace, dear Joanne. Your tapestry of love and light will never fade.
