I was saddened to hear of CDR Markoskie's passing and offer my deepest sympathy to his wife and family. John and I served on the Board of Inspection and Survey, Pacific in the early 80s. He was a professional in every sense of the term and an officer I tried to emulate when I assumed command in 1984. We saw each other a few times over the years, but near enough as we were separated by 2500 miles. But I have never forgotten what he taught me and how much his advice and mentoring meant to me. He will be missed. Godspeed Capt John, Rest in Peace.


Ken and I were sorry to hear of John's passing.  We were neighbours in Richmond and made contact again on Vancouver Island.  Our condolences go out to Terri and our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

I have just learned of Captain Markoskie's passing!  John was my Commanding Officer on the USS Sea Lion LPSS-315 in 1969 while it was stationed in Key West, FL.  I last spoke with him at our 1st Sea Lion reunion in 1999 in Reno NV.  John was greatly respected by his crew members and was a caring gentleman who always thought of his men first and foremost.  I'm sorry to have losted touch with him while he lived in B.C. and wish that I had had the opportunity to share more of our common experiences while he was with us. Calm winds and a following sea in your journey John, we have the watch!
