

On Wednesday August 06, 2025 John passed away peacefully in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital at the age of 85 years old. John is survived by his Daughter Nicola(Don), three Grandchildren Austin(Victoria), great-granddaughter Kayleighanna, Jordan(Madi) all from Cochrane, A.B. and Spencer( Lesley) from Calgary, A.B.
He is preceded by his loving wife Audrey of 51 years, and his parents Jack and Ellen Mills
of England. John was born on January 24, 1940 in Sheffield, England. He graduated from Manchester University with a B.Sc. Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1961. He married Audrey June 5, 1965 after moving to Bramley Cottage, Marsh Lane, John began working for Davy Group of companies in computer management and support. John and Audrey welcomed Nicola into their lives in 1971. The family moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1980 when John accepted a position in Computing Resources with the City of Edmonton, which led to his final position as the Computing Resources General Manager from which he retired in 2001.
John and Audrey did extensive travelling all over the world, they made many amazing friends and memories. John and Audrey moved to Nanaimo in 2013 and then to their home in Columbia Beach in 2014. Where they enjoyed escaping Alberta winters and exploring all Island life had to offer.
John's intelligence and his quick witty sense of humour, enabled him to light up a room with his personality, energy and stories, without even trying. John will be lovingly missed and remembered for being a kind, gentle man, who loved his family, friends and all animals especially (Golden Retrievers). He also loved the Parksville/Qualicum area, his daily walks on the beach with friends, viewing
and photographing wildlife.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Aug 21, 2025 at Yates Memorial Services in Parksville, B.C. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's Life.
The family would like to thank all of the friends who came to visit and the staff on the 4th floor of Nanaimo General for their care in John's final days.
