Ken was born in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, to Mildred and Ostap Korecki. He was the oldest brother to Glen (Adrienne), Keith, Melanie (Colin), Wendel (Diane), Karen, and Travis (Teri). He is survived by his partner, Chris; his daughter, Christina (Shane); 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Travis, and an infant granddaughter.
From a young age, Ken had a passion for woodworking and building, which he turned into a successful career. He could build anything, from apartment buildings and houses to furniture and intricate wooden boxes. He was our “Kengineer,” with an incredible ability to figure out almost anything, as long as it wasn't a computer. In retirement, he was happiest spending his days building a new creative project in his dream workshop or cutting firewood. Ken simply loved wood in any form. Many of his woodworking projects began as pieces of firewood when an interesting grain pattern caught his eye. Although health challenges slowed him down in later years, his positive attitude kept him moving forward. He would be proud to know that his love of woodworking has been passed down to some of his grandchildren.
Ken did take a career detour when he completed his acupuncture training in China and practiced for several years at his father's Acupuncture and Naturopathic clinic in Penticton. He enjoyed the challenge but was drawn back to his construction roots.
Ken was also a pilot, owning his own plane before he was out of high school. After moving to British Columbia, he gave up flying and turned his attention to the water. He became a Master Diver, combining that passion with boating and spending countless hours exploring the beautiful waters of BC. Whether it was a fishing trip, a day on the water, or a new adventure, Ken was always ready to go.
Ken built a lifetime of memories with friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on through the stories and memories he shared, and through the many things he built with his own hands that remain for others to enjoy.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Friday October 2, 2026 from 1-3 pm at Northview Community Church, 33507 Dewdney Trunk Rd Mission BC V2V 6Y3 Followed by a get together at the 14th Ave Pub, 32516 14th Ave, Mission, BC V2V 2N7
