It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our son, Kyle Lloyd McInnis of Nanaimo BC, on February 12, 2023 at the age of 39. Kyle was born Oct 27, 1983 in Victoria BC. He lived on Vancouver Island in Victoria, Port Renfrew and Nanaimo.
He will be lovingly remembered by his mom and dad, Arlene and Robb, sister, Karli, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Kyle was predeceased by his grandparents Lloyd and Jean McInnis William and Janette Elliott.
He described himself as eccentric, colourful, creative and hilarious. He played all his sports on Vancouver Island, Minor hockey with Peninsula, Victoria Racquet Club and Saanich, rugby with the Castaways Wanderers and lacrosse with Peninsula and Saanich. He captained the Shamrock Intermediate A team, co-captained the Junior A Shamrocks, was drafted by the Victoria Shamrocks Sr. A in the WLA, played for both the Nanaimo Sr A and Sr B Timberman. Played on 5 provincial winning teams in both rugby and lacrosse, silver medal at the Canadian Jr. A Minto Cup and was on staff with the Nanaimo Sr B Timberman Silver Medal winners at the Presidents Cup which was hosted by Nanaimo. With such passion and determination and wasn’t afraid to be the enforcer,
hence his nickname, Madness was given to him. His teammates loved him and he called Lacrosse his medicine that kept him alive and accountable.
He tried to run his own business as a plumber, but his mental health was too much to handle the stress on his own and things started to take quite a downward spiral
from there.
Addiction issues didn’t love Kyle, it controlled him, it owned him. It skewed his reality and numbed his heart. He was trying to kill the pain and it did just that when
he was taken away from us in an accidental overdose. He can now rest in peace that he was so desperately seeking while on this earth.
He will be truly missed by many, the family would like to thank his best friends, Buddy Randle, Kody Bowman, Becki Laforge, Jason Dubyna, Brendie, Sterling, Melissa and Shawn, the entire Nanaimo Sr B Timberman organization players, staff and executive.
The family would also like to thank his past coaches and mentors for sharing the love and compassion for our son, Jeff Kerr, Brent Polischuk, Rob Shahi, Jim Gow, Murray and Eva Rhodes, Jim Kipp, Bruce Clarke, Roger Dubyna, Teena and Bill McKenzie.
A private family service will take place later this year. A Celebration of Kyles Life and Spirit will be hosted by the Nanaimo Sr B Lacrosse Team, at date to be determined. Announcement will be made on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nanaimo Minor Lacrosse Association P.O. Box 377 Nanaimo BC V9R 5L3
