April 30, 1945 - January 17, 2025
Laurie passed suddenly while gardening in his backyard where he loved to spend time caring for his plants and feeding the birds.
Laurie was born and raised in Quesnel. His father died when he was a toddler and Laurie worked hard helping his mother run the Cariboo Camp Store and Cabins. Laurie graduated from Quesnel High School where he played flute and was an enthusiastic actor in school plays.
He graduated from UBC as a Chartered Accountant and worked for 45 years, running his own accounting firm for most of his career. Throughout his life, Laurie served his community through volunteer work with Rotary (where he was President for several years), Communities in Bloom, and for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. With his sense of humour and outgoing nature he connected with people everywhere.
Laurie met the love of his life, Lauran, on a Valentine's Day blind date and exactly one year later, he proposed. Together they raised their family living in Vancouver, Trail, Yellowknife and Qualicum Beach; traveled the world making friends everywhere they went; enjoyed summers at their cabin at Christina Lake; and hosted countless parties. Laurie’s grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved to take them on bike rides, swimming and cheered them on at every event.
Laurie is survived by his wife of 55 years Lauran, son Jason, daughter Sara (Don), grandchildren Jadyn and Luca, and many friends and extended family. He will be remembered for his kindness, playful humour and devotion to his family.
