Marilyn E. Hill passed away on the evening of October 9th, 2026, at the age of 73. Surrounded by love, she slipped away quietly into her next chapter.
Much like how she lived her life, her obituary will be somewhat... unconventional.
My Mum was born in the small prairie town of Morden, Manitoba. She would recount weekend mornings when she and her two siblings would cozy up in their parents' bed. Their mother would cook breakfast while their father made up adventure stories with odd-sounding characters. Everyone in the house had a nickname, and hers was one that would raise an eyebrow, although I never learned how it came to be. Perhaps some things are better left unexplained.
Family was important to Mum, and over the years, that circle grew to include so many more than those she was related to. She welcomed countless friends into her life, many of whom became just as close as family. Her friends knew she had a way of telling people what they needed (and not always wanted!) to hear. She couldn't keep herself from helping others and was always there for those who needed it most. She loved, and was loved by, many.
While we are all deeply saddened to see her go, she wouldn't want any of us to worry. In her own words, she was "ready to go home" and would jokingly add, "ok, let's hurry up already!"
Goodbye for now, Mum. We'll all miss you.
