Marina was born in Calgary and grew up surrounded by her loving family. As an adult, she spent time on Vancouver Island before returning to live in Calgary and eventually moved back to the coast where she resided in New Westminster for the past 2 years.
Marina was a beautiful, intelligent, passionate, independent, and creative soul. She grew up very close to her older sister Bridget and younger brother Taylor. In the power struggle that often ensued with Bridget the oldest and Taylor the boy, Marina was the toughest, and her family nicknamed her Bambam. Her independence was obvious even at a young age. In a roomful of children, she would often be found in a corner drawing or playing alone, completely content and oblivious to the chaos going on around her. She spent countless hours drawing and was very talented. She had an amazing smile that would light up a room.
Marina spent time working in restaurants as a server. She also worked for her father, and at her friend Nikki’s arborist store.
Marina was extremely passionate about everything she did. She struggled with mental health and addiction issues for most of her adult life.
Marina touched the lives of everyone she knew. She leaves to mourn her father Don, stepmother Pai, sister Bridget, stepbrother Ake, grandfather Peter Szakacs and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She also leaves to mourn Lara Bolton and Ronnie Islas who were like parents to her for the past 1 ½ years. She was pre-deceased by her mother Ann, brother Taylor, grandparents Lloyd and Olga Woolley and grandmother Maria Szakacs.
Our hearts ache Marina but we will cherish the time we had you in our lives.
A small service will be held at Yates Memorial Services (1000 Allsbrook Rd, Parksville, BC V9P 2A9), on Friday December 8th at 3 pm.
