

She is survived by her brother John (Marsha) Gantner of Qualicum, BC, her brother-in-law Bob (Joyce) Chambers of Lethbridge, AB, and her sister-in-law Anna (Tom Chambers-deceased) Mahshy of Toronto, ON, and nieces Melissa (Tyler)Tracey , Sareh (Scott) Tracey and Delanie (Paul) Chambers Hill and nephews Marlon Chambers and Argus Chambers and her fur baby Mini-Cooper.
Mary Ellen was born in Inverness, Scotland to Carl and Nellie Gantner, both deceased, and emigrated to Canada with her family in 1946, where she was raised in Camrose, AB.
Mary Ellen and Jim were married for 53 years and lived in both Alberta and Ontario before retiring to Parksville in 2016. During her married life, she raised, trained and showed many Scottie dogs, some were honored with awards. They enjoyed travelling with their dogs and RV all over North America, spending many winters in warmer climates exploring the southern United States.
Mary Ellen was very active in her community, an alumni of Newcomers, a member of the Foster Park Committee, and a co-founder of 100 Women Who Care. She was often seen walking her dogs in Foster Park and through the forest paths with her many friends and neighbors.
She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Trillium Hospice for the care and kindness that she received and for the kindness shown to the family while there with Mary Ellen.
There will be a private gathering held for Mary Ellen at a later date.
