Mike was the eldest child of Jack and Ellen Bullock, born in New Westminster on July 15, 1939. He spent his childhood in Parksville, BC, in the family home on Pioneer Crescent.
Mike met his wife, Dianne Carol Bullock (Parry), on a blind date. As the story goes, it was love at first sight. They married in 1964 and began their life together in Port Alberni, first in a basement suite and later in their home on Haslam Road, where they spent 32 years raising their family and building lifelong friendships.
In 1999, Mike and Dianne moved to Qualicum Beach, settling on Hickory Place, where they once again found wonderful neighbours who became an important part of their lives.
Mike was deeply grateful for the friendships, shared laughter, celebrations, and support that came with being part of such caring communities.
Mike began his career with MacMillan Bloedel in 1959 and retired in 1995 after years working in the log supply division. He had countless stories to share about his adventures on the water, scaling log booms and boating along the Alberni Canal.
Mike and Dianne shared a love of travel and adventure. Together, they towed their trailer across Canada (more than once), explored the United States, returned to their favourite camping spots on Vancouver Island, travelled to Hawaii and Europe to visit Marilyn (which took a little convincing on Mike’s part), enjoyed ski trips, and discovered the pleasures of cruising together. They leave behind many photo albums filled with memories of the places they visited and the experiences they shared.
Mike is survived by his sister, Pat; sister-in-law, Marilyn; brother-in-law, George (Heather); children, Tara (Rob) and Todd; grandchildren, Kerri, Dakota, Riley, and Parker; and great-grandchildren, Brielle and Ainslie. He will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Dianne, in 2019.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Cardiac Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for the compassion, kindness, and care shown to Mike during the final days of his life.
A gathering to remember and celebrate Mike’s life will be held on October 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC, V9P 2A9.
Mike will be remembered for the life he built, the adventures he shared, the friendships he cherished, and the family he loved.
