Mirko was born in Casarsa Italy and the family moved to Prince Rupert when he was just 6 years old.
He was an active participant in life from an early age, playing baseball, golf and basketball (Prince Rupert Rainmakers and later on seniors teams). He married Francis Remple and they had two wonderful boys: Rodney and Steven. Mirko was a pipefitter by trade and worked at Skeena Cellulose for 35 years.
He married Cathy McNeice (nee:Hardy) in 2005 and they began their new lives together, building a home on Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville. He "adopted" her children and loved them as his own.
From the size of his heart, his stature, his voice, his passions, and the vast number of scumball friends he accumulated, Mirko was larger than life in so many respects.
He will forever be lovingly missed by his wife Cathy. He will also be missed by his beloved family, including son Rodney (Sarah), step-children Travis (Lani), Trina, Troy (Jayme) McNeice, grandson Steven Colussi, and step-grandchildren Riley (Brodie) Soares, Gavin McNeice, Noah Verde, Connor and Kallia McNeice, and step-great granddaughter Flora Soares. Also his sisters Lea (Peter; deceased) Tomasin of Italy, and Grace (Peter; deceased) Fenker of Kelowna, as well as brother George of Prince Rupert.
Mirko was predeceased by his parents Mary and Victor as well as his beloved son Steven who was taken by cancer in 2010.
Mirko was so thankful that he was able to put an end to his own cancer journey with the help of MAID. He was also very appreciative of the care he received from the wonderful Island Health care team; from caring nurses, doctors, and others too numerous to mention.
A service to commemorate Mirko's life will be held Thursday, June 11th, 1 pm at Yates Memorial Services in Parksville.
