We, his three sisters, are so proud of our little brother and everything he accomplished in life! Here are a few photos that we feel capture Pat well.
Despite having never set foot in skis as a youth, after lots of hard work, for many years he was a Ski Patroller at Whistler and then a helicopter ski guide in Eastern BC.
Along the way he acquired and trained dogs for avalanche search and rescue and eventually he became an instructor, training others and their dogs in both Canada and the USA. At one point we believe that Pat had played a part in the training and certification of every Avalanche Rescue dog team in Canada, and perhaps North America.
In the summers he operated a Sea Kayak Adventure business in Tofino on Vancouver Island’s west coast and guided wilderness canoe trips in Canada’s far North.
A serious hip injury ended that life for him but he steadfastly remained near the mountains he so loved until his recent death.
Because of the distance between us, our interaction with Pat’s friends and co-adventurers have been limited so we would love you to share any thoughts, photos and stories about Pat that you feel capture his unique spirit. Please go to the Tribute Wall here to add your story and please also indicate what part of Pat’s life you shared with him.
For those who may not have known about the extent of Pat’s adventures, we created a short illustrated life’s story that we are proud to share through the link below. We also have paper copies of it in booklet form. If you would like us to mail one or more out to you, just send an email to [email protected] or mail a note to Angela Holtham, 1312 Woodeden Dr., Mississauga, ON. Please provide your mailing address and the number of copies you would like.
We also have a treasure of mementos, photos and stories of Pat’s, many of which are now in soft copy and can be easily shared. If there is something you may be interested in looking through or having a copy of, we can arrange to share these as well. Just use Angela’s contact above.
Sincerely,
Pat’s devoted sisters:
Mary Ellen Nolan, Olinda Brienza and Angela Holtham
