It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Patrick Ardern Kingsford at his home in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, in his 83rd year. Patrick is now reunited with his beloved father, Annesley Douglas Kingsford and mother, Mary Harvie Kingsford (nee Ardern).
Patrick is survived by his wife, Carolyn Louise Kingsford (nee Oke) and his children, from youngest to oldest: Patricia Mary Moroto (Rob), Charlotte Elizabeth Kingsford (Chris), and Victoria Louise Lemieux. Patrick is also survived by his grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as “Ocean Papa”, “Papa”, or “Poppy” - Kazuya, Koji and Kaiyo Moroto; Sebastian and Alexander Nendsa; and Sasha Lemieux. He also leaves behind his brother, Douglas Kingsford (Gail), and his brother’s children, Rachel, Desmond, and Gareth, and his sister Kelly Lamoureux (Robbie), and her children, Boyd and Brogan.
Patrick was born at Weybridge, England on November 25, 1943. He emigrated with his parents to Canada aged four years, and grew up in Calgary, Alberta. As a young man, he attended Shawnigan Lake Boys School on Vancouver Island. After graduation, he studied Chemical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 1968. Following his graduation from UBC, Patrick worked for Union Oil in California and Texas. In 1970, he returned to Calgary, Canada and began working at Dome Petroleum, and thereafter, joined his father’s company, Petro Equipment Sales Ltd. He met his future wife, Carolyn, at the Calgary Table Tennis Club upon his return to Calgary. During his time with Petro Equipment Sales Ltd, he also lived in Toronto, Ontario and Edmonton, Alberta, before settling once again in Calgary, Alberta during the latter part of his career after acquiring the family company. Upon retirement, he relocated with his wife to Qualicum Beach, British Columbia.
Patrick was an avid sportsman, outdoorsman and conservationist, who enjoyed skiing, fishing, and hunting. He was a long-time supporter of Ducks Unlimited. Until his health prevented it, he also made an annual trek to North Saskatchewan for duck hunting with a group of close friends. In his younger years, he made many trips to the northern parts of Vancouver Island for salmon fishing and ocean kayaking as well. His children fondly recall ski trips with their dad, when he would impress them with the elegance and ease of his skiing, usually on two mismatched skis in floral ski pants!
Patrick will be remembered in the community for being a kind, respectful gentleman and neighbour. He also carried a special place in his heart for dogs for which he always carried an extra biscuit. In his later years, he was a regular down at the French Creek Marina, where he would take daily walks with his friend, Wally Hendy.
Patrick battled valiantly for about ten years with kidney disease. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the many individuals who provided care, support and comfort to Patrick over this period, especially his long-serving Nephrologist, Dr. Naomi Glick, and his family doctor, Dr. Robert Waite, both of whom provided outstanding care for Patrick.
Patrick’s life was celebrated quietly with family immediately after his passing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (https://kidney.akaraisin.com/ui/PersonalPages/p/42fe5de924ac4e5a91821e7c9d358ad0) are appreciated.
