Phyllis was born in Nelson, BC and passed away at home in Qualicum Beach. Phyllis was the youngest child of Thomas and Margaret Johnston both of whom immigrated to Canada from Scotland. Phyllis is survived by her son Tom (Sheila), granddaughter Haeleigh (Tanner), grandsons Trynn (Mya) and Dayne. One surviving sister in-law, Alice Peltomaki of Sudbury, ON and of course her beloved little dog Molly. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Jack in June, 2025, her daughter Sheilah in November, 2019 her mother Margaret in 1986, her father in 1979, her two siblings, brother Jack (Eve) and sister Connie (Mel). Phyllis will be fondly remembered for the pride in which she took in decorating and maintaining her many homes and gardens over the years in numerous communities across Canada. Phyllis from an early age had a keen interest in art winning an art drawing competition in her teens becoming an accomplished artist beginning with pastels and later venturing into watercolours and oil paints. Phyllis enjoyed giving many of her finished art works to friends and family who often admired her art work. Phyllis enjoyed her solitude and quiet time providing her the opportunity to become quite skilled at fine needlepoint creating some beautiful works that often took months or more to complete, some now framed hanging in the family home. One of the sure highlights of Jack and Phyllis’s later life together arrived when Jack a career member of the RCMP was posted to the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, UK during 1983/84. This move across the pond afforded both the opportunity to travel throughout the UK and continental Europe something they thoroughly enjoyed all while meeting and developing many cherished lifelong friendships and memories with other RCDS attendees from countries all over the world.
