It is with heartbreaking sadness that we let you know that Ray left this world peacefully at home with his loving wife Wendy by his side. Ray was a great dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, son, brother, uncle, a good friend to many and an absolutely wonderful husband. He loved deeply and was deeply loved.
Ray always laughed a lot, and had a good sense of humor, he was an easygoing guy. He enjoyed listening to music, loved playing golf with the guys or his wife, barbecuing a good steak and of course enjoying a glass of good red wine.
Ray enjoyed a highly successful lifelong career in the truck transportation industry; he was a dedicated man and was well respected. As a teenager he started driving highway trucks learning and navigating the many rules of the road. He drove company trucks for a few years eventually buying his own truck. He drove long-haul across both Canada and the US for several years; he also worked in dispatch for a short time, taught driving to new drivers, and travelled across Canada to all the company terminals teaching Safety and Loss Prevention to drivers.
In the mid 70’s Ray was promoted to management, serving various positions over the years. He truly enjoyed the privilege of hosting many customers on numerous trips including fishing charters to the Queen Charlotte Islands, touring the Mercedes Benz plant in San Paulo, Brazil, and factory tours to the Detroit Diesel Engine plant in Detroit, Michigan, and the Allison Transmission headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ray was a long-time member of the BC Trucking Association, serving on several committees as well as on the Board of Directors; he was awarded an honorary lifetime membership in 2009 for his service. Ray always enjoyed a very busy workday schedule and the camaraderie of the people he worked alongside of, he finally retired in 2014.
Ray was a community spirited man, serving on committees of the French Creek Residents Association as well as the Friends of French Creek Conservation Society.
Following his retirement Ray and Wendy spent many happy days playing golf at the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club, where he won the “Men’s 9 Hole Champion” in both 2015 and 2018.
There will be no service at his request, we are very grateful for the love we have received from both family and friends.
“It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters, in the end."
